Design & Comfort
The Armchair No. 8 combines the embracing comfort of a wingback chair with the lighter proportions of a contemporary lounge chair. Its high, contoured backrest creates a sense of privacy and support, while the gently curved armrests follow the natural position of the body.
The slim, splayed wooden legs lift the upholstered body above the floor, giving the chair a visually light appearance despite its generous seat and high backrest. This balance allows the chair to become a distinctive feature without making the surrounding interior feel crowded.
Use it as a comfortable reading chair, a standalone accent beside a window, or as part of a living-room arrangement next to a sofa. Its sculpted profile works particularly well where comfort is important but a traditional, visually heavy armchair would feel too dominant.
The supportive back, elevated armrests, resilient seat, and softly textured Venus velvet make this velvet lounge chair a welcoming place for reading, conversation, or a quiet moment at the end of the day.
Solid Beech Frame & Construction
Solid beech structure
The visible wooden structure and legs are made from solid beech. Beech is a European hardwood widely used in load-bearing furniture because of its density, strength, and resistance to everyday wear.
Its fine, even grain creates a clean appearance that complements the soft texture of velvet. The legs are available in two finishes: Beech and Dark Beech, allowing the wooden base to blend with either lighter or deeper interior colour schemes.
Plywood seat base
The upholstered seat rests on a plywood base. For a flat, load-bearing surface, cross-bonded plywood provides an effective structural solution: its layered construction distributes pressure and reduces the risk of splitting or warping along a single grain direction.
This construction creates a stable foundation beneath the springs and foam while allowing the upholstered form to maintain its carefully shaped profile.
HR high-resilience foam
The seat is filled with HR high-resilience foam. Its open and resilient structure is designed to provide support, respond to pressure, and recover its shape after use more effectively than basic low-density upholstery foam.
The result is a seat that feels comfortable without becoming excessively soft, helping the chair retain its shape and supportive character during regular use.
Steel serpentine springs
Beneath the foam is a system of steel serpentine springs. The springs help distribute pressure across the seat and create a more responsive seating surface than foam placed directly on a rigid base.
Together, the plywood base, serpentine springs, and HR foam create a layered seat designed to balance comfort, support, and structural stability.
Venus Velvet Upholstery

Venus is a soft knitted velvet made from 100% polyester. Its gently reflective pile gives the surface visual depth, allowing the colour to shift subtly as the direction of light changes.
The material combines the tactile quality expected from velvet with measurable durability suitable for frequently used upholstered furniture. Venus has achieved 90,000 Martindale abrasion cycles using the ISO 12947-2 Martindale test method.
| Material type | Knitted velvet |
|---|---|
| Composition | 100% Polyester |
| Weight | 450 g/m² |
| Abrasion resistance | 90,000 Martindale cycles |
| Lightfastness | 4–5 |
| Flame-retardancy test | PN-EN 1021-1 cigarette test |
As with all pile fabrics, the appearance of Venus can change depending on the direction of the fibres and the light. This is a natural feature of velvet rather than a defect. Gently smoothing the surface by hand or with a soft upholstery brush helps keep the pile looking even.
